I got bored several weeks ago and
decided since it's too hot in the garage to build the full size Air Camper in
the AZ summer heat, I should try building a scale RC model. I scaled down
the GN-1 plans to 1/7th scale. After drafting the plans and engineering a
model friendly wing attach system I bought the needed balsa wood and
plywood. Total wood bill was $30. I built the fuse and tail feathers
first and left the wing for last. Servos, motor, speed control and other needed
equipment totals about $200. Not bad for a fun little Sunday flier.
Wingspan is 46". Weight 29oz ready to fly. Electric Speed 400 power with a 3:1 gear drive system swinging a 10x6 propeller. 8 Cell 1100mah battery should provide a 12-20 minute flight. Stall speed is calculated at 13mph with a top speed of 35mph. The landing gear is bent from .072 music wire and soldered together. I bought the custom made wire wheels which look just right on a Piet. Notice the scale rear cockpit panel there? Flies much like a real Air Camper. Looks best on low and slow fly-by's. Pull the power back and all that drag brings her down quick. No need for flaps or slips. In fact, I find that I need to carry some power in throughout the flare until just before the wheels touch the ground. Like the paint job??? Look familiar?? Plans for the bird are available... email me for more info.
